Reigning Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.
The 27-year-old captured four titles – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of Consistency
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
