Around 25,000 homes in southeastern Queensland woke up lacking electricity on the start of the week after intense storm systems swept through the region, producing wind gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Massive Ice Stones and Extensive Impact

Residents reported giant hailstones as large as 7cm in some areas. Weather authorities confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been hit with significant hail.

Response teams were attempting to repair power throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units activated to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Storm Challenges

At the same time, around 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area experienced its most precipitation in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to nearly 600 calls for help across the region, mainly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

• Wyndham - over 175 emergency requests

At the height on yesterday, more than twenty-eight thousand electricity consumers in the state were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along significant areas of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was forecast to be the most rainy day, with continued thunderstorm potential expected across multiple regions of both areas.

Safety Concern

Medical authorities warned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.
