Following weeks of suspense, schemes and sabotage, Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling end
Warning: spoilers ahead - This piece reveals details from Celebrity Traitors finale
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that cut through all tension.
However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
Out of 19 contestants, just a handful remained: Traitors and faithfuls competing for the winnings.
Before long, the competition tightened to just three: the final players.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the champion, in a shocking outcome that went viral and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he exclaimed, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been a traitor. "I feel terrible about this."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms quickly erupted with the news. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," wrote a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a more iconic ending," stated a different person, while a third called it "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, a cancer charity, gets to keep all the prize money, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the season.
However, his victory still shocked viewers in shock, according to industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, of all people, pulling off an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players summed up why no one had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have appeared to breakfast in traitor attire and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"The majority didn't target him because how can you eliminate a person so charming?" asked another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the show.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would work a second time!"
The final episode was lengthened to over an hour on the network. There was a different start than typical episodes, as all the celebs were aware who'd make it at the morning gathering.
Viewers heard particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as the episode revisited key scenes from every remaining player's time in the castle.
As ever, the comedian provided unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I started the competition as something of an anxious mess. I've thrown some really good friends to save myself, I've murdered beloved figures in plain sight. I'm clearly more deceptive and player than I believed."
Meanwhile, another contestant noted that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than playing for a national team", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, several players appeared to be attempting to become the new style icon of the castle, taking over from the previously eliminated fashionable contestant.
Carr emerged at the morning meal resembling a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.
Following this was the competition, with the final players boarding a train named - of course - The Traitors Express.
The challenge saw them destroying portraits of eliminated players. Spare a thought for a player who was hit in the head multiple times by the lid of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the roundtable.
Two traitors made a pact beforehand, vowing to support each other. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," said a player, while the other just giggled.
However, one did stick to his promise. But, managing to stay under the radar for most of the game, their partner still got the most votes.
The last deceiver looked like he was in significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and viewers were similarly upset.
"I did NOT want that player to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented a commentator.
"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted another user.
However, there remained little opportunity to dwell on this departure. Before long, they were at the final stage - this being what we were really all here for.
The last players gathered around the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership broke down, precisely when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their partner, who turned against them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back last minute in that manner," remarked the eliminated player. Subsequently, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player calls the other by a betrayer's name.
Finally, only three contestants remained in the game: the final trio.
One player, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the game. So did another, and it all came down to the third, who did the same - which meant that the traitor was the winner.
According to commentators, the moment where the other players comforted the winner was "compelling television". "I predict it will be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they commented.
Happily, the winner soon recovered from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate his victory.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and here I am the champion," he said.
He also made light of that infamous murder - his close ally in an early episode - by reaching over the presenter in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes surprising incidents may seem like a bizarre fantasy. Yet it actually occur. And we will miss it.
