A trio of officers lost their lives and no fewer than 15 additional individuals got wounded in an apparently intentional detonation from gas at a farmhouse in Italy's north.

Sequence of Events

The explosion occurred as law enforcement and fire personnel approached the property near Verona to enforce an removal notice for two brothers and a sister aged in their 50s and 60s.

Each of the three officers killed were members of the Carabinieri force.

Arrests and Aftermath

Two individuals got detained at the scene and one more individual who ran away subsequent to the explosion was apprehended shortly later. All three have been admitted to hospital.

The wounded by the blast comprised 11 other members of the military police as well as three members of the state police and a emergency responder.

“Everyone was aware the circumstances were severe,” neighbors told local news, mentioning that the three had previously threatened to “detonate the property” rather than leave the house.

“The incident exacted a ‘dreadful, extremely sad and dramatic price’.”
